The House Spirit Distillery operates out of Portland’s Distillery Row in Oregon, home of the USA’s handcrafted spirit renaissance. Founded by craft beer and wine makers Christian Krogstad and Lee Medoff, the distillery has led the charge in shaping the community and culture of craft spirits in Oregon.

It was a collaboration with bartender and restaurateur Ryan Magarian that led to the release of the incredibly successful American Aviation Gin. In fact, it fueled the growth of the distillery in a new direction. Today, the distillery is run by Christian Krogstad with the support of external investment as it pursues its craft roots to bring handmade whiskies into their repertoire. It also has a special line of crafted spirits available only at the distillery, introducing patrons to the apothecary collection that House Spirits has created and continues to experiment with.

    Aviation American Gin

    40% Abv – 700ml

Heralded as America’s original craft gin, Aviation is a versatile gin that takes a full-bodied Dutch style rye spirit base and steeps it in a blend of seven botanicals – juniper, cardamom, lavender, sarsaparilla, coriander, anise seed and dried orange peel before redistilling it. Infusing the base by maceration rather than vapour distillation lends a noticeably distinct sip that’s not juniper-heavy, but instead reveals floral and spice notes in equal measure. Pushing the category in new directions as ‘New Western Dry’, Aviation gin has been winning accolades across the globe for its bold craft heart.

Tasting Notes: Aromas of juniper and cardamom lead into hints of smoke and freshly cut grass on the nose as a pleasantly heavy rye and spice make a floral entrance on the palate with anise top notes. A slight sweet finish with a clean citrus pith lingers on the palate topped with a hint of peppery spice and a light smokiness that makes this gin sheer pleasure neat or on the rocks.
