Calle 23 Tequila is the result of a journey started back in 2003 by master distiller Sophie Decobecq, whose patience and passion drove her to obtain a tequila that could satisfy first of all, her own palate and then the possible potential aficionados. Calle 23 is a 100% pure agave tequila produced in Zapotlanejo, Jalisco, from fully mature blue agaves harvested from the ‘Los Altos de Jalisco’ area (the Highlands area) in Jalisco, Central Mexico. Calle 23 Tequila is double distilled in pot stills with copper streamer – the first distillation produces a low alcohol spirit called ‘ordinario’ but the second distillation ends with a clear, colorless liquid of a higher alcohol content, ‘El Tequila’. This then gets married with locally sourced pure spring water to reach 40% alc.vol and then and only then is a Calle 23 Tequila properly ready for handbottling.

    CALLE 23, BLANCO

    40 % Abv – 700ml

Small batch unaged 100% agave. The Blanco reflects the purest expression of the 100% pure agave flavour making it a perfect choice for the purist. It has been created with 2 specific yeasts allowing the agave flavour to express at its best.

Tasting Notes: The Blanco is crystalline clear, with a medium body with a nose of cooked agaves, hints of citrus and herbaceous notes. On the palate it is soft and gentle yet with much character. Full agave flavour, hints of fruit especially Granny Smith apples and pears in the long, lingering aftertaste.

    CALLE 23, REPOSADO

    40 % Abv – 700ml

The double distilled 100% agave tequila is the creation of French microbiologist, engineer and distiller, Sophie Decobecq. The name of the product comes from a sign: Decobecq was out celebrating the completion of a new spirit that had not been named yet. Across the road was a sign, Calle 23 (calle is street in Spanish) and thus, a new brand was born.

Calle 23 Tequila Reposado is a small batch drink made with 100% fully matured agaves sourced from the Highland region of Jalisco. It is fermented with special yeast cultivated from agave fields — here, Decobeq’s experience in fermenting and microbiology come in handy. The spirit is double distilled and rested for eight months in American oak ex-whiskey barrels to create a balanced, pale gold tequila sold in a bottle plastered with black agave leaves.

Sip it neat at room temperature, or in a Tommy’s Margarita.

The reposado picked up Silver at San Francisco World Spirit Competition 2021.

Tasting Notes: A vibrant and evolved nose of cooked agave also has some spiciness from oak casks. On the palate, it has a strong personality, smooth with wood, vanilla, and toffee, roasted pepper for a punchy mid tongue evolving into sweet roasted fig notes. There is a faint bitterness to the finish, which is short and spicy.

    CALLE 23, ANEJO

    40 % Abv – 700ml

Another 100% agave expression from French distiller Sophie Decobecq, this añejo is full-bodied and ideal for those who prefer a slightly sweet and spicy tequila. Double distilled in traditional copper pot stills, the spirit is matured for 16 months in ex-Bourbon oak casks from Kentucky, to create a spirit that is creamy and rich with a delicate sweetness.

It opens well with a single cube of ice or sip it neat to fully enjoy the aromas.

Tasting Notes: The first sniff brings up woody oak aromas, followed by spices and sugary notes of jammy overripe fruits. Perfectly balanced on the palate, it has oak, toffee, buttery vanilla, and some tobacco expressions. There is a spicy overlay, which finishes strong.
